And the hits keep coming...
9 - How the Grinch Stole Christmas
This is going to be the first of a few non-traditional movies to make the list. When I say non-traditional, I mean they weren't released in theaters and weren't even what you would consider a full-length film. For the most part, they were television specials. Does that mean they should be exempt? Heck no. It's not their fault that several regular films can't meet the bar that these classics have set.
"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" was eventually remade into a real-life version with Jim Carey as the Grinch. I admired the effort they put forth in that flick but it's the original cartoon version that makes this list.
I didn't know until just recently (and by "just recently" I mean just a few days ago when I watched the telecast again) that the voice of the Grinch was voiced by the one and only Bela Lugosi. Kids today would never appreciate that. They probably have no realization of the original Frankenstein and/or Dracula black and white movies. Personally, he was a perfect fit for the voice.
A couple other notable items:
- The trademark song "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch" was sung by the familiar voice of Tony the Tiger yet he got no film credit for it
- The film was scored by Albert Hague, the man who played the band/orchestra teacher in "Fame"
They can remake it as many times as they want and they still can never re-create that kind of magic.
