More Christmas top 5...
4 - Santa Claus is Coming to Town
It was a story that was a long time coming. It's hard to believe that until then, nobody had bothered to put together a movie explaining the origins of Santa Claus in terms which children could understand. Sure it was all made up Santa Claus was made up anyway (sorry Virginia) so they pretty much had free reign to do as they chose.
I can remember watching this as a shortie and not believing many of the reasonings they came up with. Kris Kringle was raised by wild
animals? So we were to buy into the fact that Santa was a Tarzan hybrid? Even though that seemed to go off the deep end a bit, it didn't change the fact that I loved the film.
I was trying to put my finger on it with the whole claymation fascination and I think I finally did it. It was a combination of the worlds of cartoon and real-life. We had never seen that before. Then of course the reason they are still appealing is because it reminds us of our childhood when we had far less issues to worry about.
Rass/Bankin studios scored big again with "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". For some reason during this time period, they appeared to be the only studio that knew how to make good Christmas films that could appeal to both adults and children. More than that, they were able to transcend the era in which they were made so they could be enjoyed for years to come.
