I'm not going to lie and say that it was his predominant presence in the news world that inspired me to pursue Journalism as a major at Iowa State. However, I will say that he did serve as role model for me growing up watching the news. I would never see any African Americans anywhere on the local news or national news except for him.
Regardless of what his ethnicity, I dare anyone to argue the fact that he was the best correspondent on "60 Minutes". I loved how he had a consistent laidback demeanor while interviewing. It didn't matter how heated or even deceitful his subject would get, Ed wouldn't get rattled.
The world of Journalism has easily lost one of its greatest legends. Rest in peace, Ed.
