Now the third in the trilogy of the grim reaper's rampage. This one came as little surprise since this cat was up there in age, comparatively speaking. Oscar winner Jack Palance died at the age of 87 from natural causes.
Many folks from my generation got familiar with Jack thru roles he did more recently. Probably first as Carl Grissom in the original "Batman" and then more notably his most memorable was his Curly from the "City Slickers" movies. Who could forget him doing one-handed push-ups at the Academy Awards when he won for best supporting actor for that role?
Of course Palance had been making movies long before the more recent hits. I guess he was also known for his part in the Hollywood classic "Shane". To this day, I still haven't seen that movie and seriously doubt that I ever will.
For me, the way that I got to know Jack wasn't thru any of those movies anyway. I first saw him in this cheesy fantasy "Lord of the Rings" type movie called "Hawk the Slayer". That used to be me and Teandra's favorite movie back in the day. Before the days of VCRs (or before our family had one anyway) we recorded the whole movie on audio tape and used to listen to it. A lot of good It did doing that to an action movie where you can't get the full effect, but it was good enough for us.
Rest in peace, Voltan.
