Things to Be Grateful For
Music
I was beginning to get discouraged that we are half way thru the year and I haven't heard any cuts that had stuck with me. Then it dawned on me that there were quite a few of them out there, I just didn't know the names. I heard them often on my new favorite afternoon show, The Ride with Doug and DeDe. Even on The TJMS every now and then. Here are a few of them that I'm currently diggin...
"Honey" - Erkyah Badu
I've actually been on this one for a while. I just kept putting it off giving it the shout out it deserves. Just
when you think Ms. Badu can't make a comeback, she surprises us. It wasn't enough that this cut had a TIGHT beat with it, they also had the nerve to make one of the best videos I've seen in a long time. Anyone who appreciates old school like I do has to luv it. Check it out here.
"Sent from Heaven" - Keyshia Cole
I've said it before and I will continue to say it until they shut up all the ridiculous noise...she is NOT the new Mary J. Blige. However, she can make some good tunes when she applies herself. It is obvious that her producers are trying to give her the early-90s Mary J. sound. I'm not mad at them. Stick with what works.
"Love in This Club" remix - Usher f/ Beyonce
The original version was just okay. What made it fun to listen to was just the fact that Usher is back on the scene after being gone so long. What makes the remix even better is that his producers also threw in some early 90s flavor. Plus, Usher switched up the lyrics so you almost forget the fact that the song is about the disgusting thought of getting busy in a nasty club restroom.
"You're the Only One" - Eric Benet
It doesn't matter how good this song is or any other song he will ever do. All I keep thinking about when I hear an Eric Bent song now is this is the guy who cheated on Halle Berry. HALLE BERRY! He needs to make a song about that called "What Was I Thinking".
