It seems like everywhere I turn, friends of mine present and past are getting back in shape. Every other post, conversation, Twitter message and/or Facebook update is talking about them heading to the gym. I know I had said I was going to do the same thing last year, but I never got around to it. No excuse really. I just continued being lazy. Well that changes now.
I was going to have the intent to get back on track again for a New Year's resolution. However, I was "convinced" to do it early when D made an appointment for the whole family to take a tour of the local Aspen Athletic Club. Apparently great minds think alike as she too figured it was time for us to get back in shape.
We got there at 7pm on the nose. The exact time of our appointment. We were supposed to meet with some cat named Jake; however, Jake wasn't ready for us. He was still with another potential client. We filled out one of their generic membership forms while we waited. I didn't feel like taking it too serious so for one of the questions that asked "Your body description?" I replied "Big Fella". It took us all of about five minutes to complete the app. When we were finished, Jake still wasn't available.
So now we're sitting in their quaint waiting room/sports viewing room. What I didn't get was as we are sitting there waiting on this guy, at least four of his co-workers were having some pow-wow behind the desk when any one of them could have assisted us. D theorized that they probably work on commission so they couldn't step in. I wasn't buying it. I wasn't the only one either.
Branding and G were also in tow and G was steadily getting restless. One of the Aspen people tried to strike up a conversation with G and he straight-forwardly whined "What's taking so long?!" D tried to smile and look embarrassed, but I couldn't help but laugh. Especially after the next exchange:
Aspen lady: Jake should just be a couple of more minutes
G: It's already been two minutes!
I had to get G dap on that one. Although I have known to be pretty rude at times, I wasn't going to say it myself even though I was thinking it. Funny how great minds were thinking alike again. He's definitely my son alright.
Anyway, Jake finally met with us. For some reason, when I heard the name "Jake" and associated it with a fitness center, I was picturing a guy looking like the Body by Jake dude. Not so much. This Jake looked like he should have been working the computer in the Body by Jake office. Still, he was more fit than me so he must have been doing something right.
Long story short, we ended up signing up in spite of the customer service. Aspen is the most cost-effective fitness center in town. Plus, they have a place there for the shorties to be occupied while we work out. Since the monetary commitment is already in place, now it's just a matter of dedicating the will power. I can do it. I know I can. I better.
