There are probably very few people out there who even know who I'm talking about. At least of the folks that read my site. Even if I were to mention her real name, Gale Storm, it probably wouldn't ring any bells. It definitely did for me though so I had to acknowledge the sorrowful news.
Storm, who had been in failing health in recent years, died Saturday at a convalescent hospital in Danville, CA. She was 87-years-old.
A while back, I had done a post about this little known network known as the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN). "My Little Margie" always came on at the tail-end of their late night "old school" programming. Storm played the lead character on the show, Margie Albright, and that's how I came to know who she was.
I did admit in that post that I don't remember a whole lot about the show because it came on so light. One thing that did stick with me was it involved her and her single dad. True, he was a widower, but it was still a one-parent household and one with the dad around instead of the mother. I still wonder if that was ever a sore point with the conservative culture of the 50s when it aired.
I didn't know this until reading another obit on her, but I guess she actually has three stars on Hollywood's Walk of Fame due to her acting AND singing talents. I didn't even know folks could get more than one star down there? Wouldn't one be good enough? And if there are other folks that have multiple stars down there also, that Walk of Fame must be miles longer that what I initially thought.
Anyway, you know how when you go on vacation and you get back to work to find out you have a ton of work to get done? So you knock it out in chunks so that you can get to the daily mundane tasks that your job calls for? That's a little what it feels like the Reaper has done. We've had a bunch of celebrities die here in a clump as if he was trying to play catch-up and Gale was the latest victim.
Rest in peace, Margie.
