The Grim Reaper is putting in some serious overtime here recently. It's as if he was trying to squeeze in as many as possible before the end of the year hits. He must have some year-end quota we don't know about. Even with the celebrity deaths I did mention, there were still more. I didn't even say anything about Roy Disney passing away. Then comes today's bombshell.
She had come a long way since she first debuted in "Clueless". She was playing the third wheel in a movie where Alicia Silverstone was getting top billing. Even though Murphy's character Taj was crucial to the story (yes...I will admit that "Clueless" is one of my guilty pleasure flicks), Murphy didn't share the same fanfare that Alicia did. There was a simple superficial reason for that.
Murphy didn't REALLY get noticed until she dropped the pudge that she carried in "Clueless". Once she started carrying the build similar to the other Hollywood gals from her age group, she started getting bigger roles. Such as her part in the classic "8 Mile". She even headlined some films. Many of them turned out being not that bad either. "Uptown Girls" for instance was one where I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.
I would venture to say that that desire to fit in with the Hollywood mold may have contributed to her early death. At the time of this entry, there are no details being released as to what caused her cardiac arrest. However, she had been getting increasingly skinnier from role to role. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we eventually discover that an eating disorder had something to do with her death.
Whatever the case may be, she was a young talent who is gone too soon. Rest in peace, Brittany.
