I actually used to like this guy. Okay...maybe "like" is a bit of a strong word. It's not as if I was out buying his books and/or hanging on his every word. So maybe I used to tolerate Donald Trump is a better way to put it. Probably because when "The Apprentice" first came out it was a very intriguing show. Several seasons later it quickly lost its luster and he became annoying. He must have realized that too. That's why he went on this kick lately to get more publicity by getting more involved in politics.
So Trump running for President isn't as a big a deal as some people make it out to be. It's not like billionaires haven't done it before. I know many of you remember that big-eared fella Ross Perot, right? I guess when folks get that much money they run out of ideas of things to spend it on so politics seems like the next logical choice. Only I'm not totally convinced Don was even it for the political aspect. I still think it was just a ploy to get himself attention and drive up ratings.
How else can you explain the fact that Don decides to bring up a topic that has been beat to death AND disrpoven already? President Obama has been in office for three years now and the discussion about his US Citizenship has probably been raised more time than folks have talked about Trump's jacked up hairdo. But Trump figured he might as well take a stab at it. He has no true political platform to support so that was the only thing he could do to show folks that he was politically-inclined.
There were a couple of major flaws with Trump's logic. The first being something that other folks have continued to overlook for the longest. Before coming President Obama, our POTUS was the first Black man to ever be a serious, viable candidate for the presidency. People weren't going to let that happen without making sure that he wasn't vetted again and again and again and then vetted some more. More than any other person in the history of the Presidential elections. They probably invented new screening proceses just for him. And he passed all of them. INCLUDING the birth certificate one.
The other problem with Trump's reasoning was thinking that he could be considered a serious contender for the Presidency in the first place. Remember that "billionaire" reference I made earlier? Well Trump doesn't even fall into that category. The man did file bankruptcy not that long ago. He does have millions, but not Oprah type money. He's barely as rich as Beyonce. Heck, she'd have a better shot at getting nominated than he would. Not that that is neither here nor there.
And I don't care what nobody says but I totally agree with the President's choice to take digs at Trump for making such allegations. This country does have better things to do. It was a ridiculous assertion. The reason that President Obama is so polarizing in the first place is because he is one of the most down to earth Presidents we've ever had. So him dishing it right back to Trump at the Correspondents Dinner was just another example of how regular he is. I like that our President is like that. I have no problem with it at all. That's just another way of him showing that he won't be pushed around. And anyone else that wants to try it can get some too.
