You know I told myself at the beginning of the year that I would try to have a balance with this weekly entry. When I made the decision that I would post either a Bungles or a Winner depending on the week, I wanted to make sure I didn't have more of one than the other. However, something told me that more of the Bungles would come through. There's just always more negative stories to find. This week was no exception. And wouldn't you know that it was the good ol' Tea Party that's responsible.
Orange County Tea Party activist Marilyn Davenport thought it would be funny to chime in with her own take on the alleged controversy surrounding President Obama and his birth certificate. Instead of going the Donald Trump route and pounding her chest about it in the media, she circulated a racist email which depicted Obama's face superimbosed over a baby chimpanzee in a family of three chimps. The caption accompanying it read "Now you know why no birth certificate".
Now of course you know as soon as this hit the media Marilyn came out with the normal excuses that all racists use...
"I didn't intend for it to be racist..."
"Anyone who knows me knows I'm not a racist..."
"I have Black friends..."
But the truth of the matter is she knew FULL well what she was doing when she sent that email. She was just hoping that no one within the inner circle of people she sent it to would let it leak out anywhere. Thank goodness that one of her "friends" has more common sense than her. She is just one of the latest Tea Party members among the several of them that are constantly getting expose for what they truly are.
There are a couple of things "funny" about the situation. The first being that she actually had the nerve to say she will not be resigning her Central Committee position. Whatever that is. It doesn't matter what position she was elected to. The constituency she is supposed to be representing should be ashamed of her actions. They need to demanding her resignation even if she says she won't do it herself. If they don't speak up then it speaks volumes for the kind of people that she is representing.
The other "funny" thing? Not to be mean, but look at her. It's rather ironic that she has the nerve to accuse anyone of looking like a primate. The first thing that came to mind when I saw this picture of her was one of those huge orangutan's you see in the zoo eating flies off the back of the head of their mate. Okay...so that was a little harsh, but I'm just calling it like I see it. Maybe she ought to take a better look in the mirror next time before she decides to start throwing stones.
