It's probably been too long since I've done one of these. It's not like there have been a shortage of very worthy candidates either. I swear I see at least one story a day where some person is just begging to be called out.. I was just giving it a rest for a minute so it wouldn't seem like I was harping on negativity. But then I saw this latest story on Tanya McDowell and there was no way I couldn't say something about it.
Does the name look familiar to any of my regular readers? It should. It was just back in January this year that I had mentioned her in a post voicing my support of her actions to provide her children a better education. She was the lady that lied about her residency so her daughters could get into a good school. That type of lawlessness seemed pretty minor at the time. Afterall, she was doing it for a good cause. She even got the Tom Joyner Morning Show to send her money for her cause.
Well it turns out that Tanya isn't quite the saint that folks had painted her out to be afterall.
That same mom recently got arrested again for something much more serious. This time it was "allegedly" for selling crack to an undercover agent. As if that wasn't bad enough, it is also reported that she offered a Samford, Connecticut undercover officer marijuana and the use of prostitutes she was pimping from her aunt's home in Bridgeport.
Now her attorney is naturally saying that she is innocent until proven guilty. Further claiming entrapment because of all the public support she received from the whole school situation. Yeah...I don't see it that way at all. I don't think anyone in their right mind would. Was there anyone holding a gun to her head telling her to sell drugs AND pimp prostitutes? She's a grown woman. She chose to do that on her own. And quite frankly, given the fact that she was already in the limelight because of the school situation, it could not have been a more stupid thing to do.
I was thinking the next thing they would try to use an excuse is that she had to resort to that to pay for a better education for her children. Good thing they didn't go there. Although there is still time to use that defense. If they try to leverage the kids like that to get her off then she will further lose what little respect she had in the first place. It's already a shame that she had us thinking that she was trying to be a good mom. Now we see what she's really about.
