Occasionally I will run into one of the stories that seemed almost to incredulous to believe. If there wasn't some photo and/or video evidence proof that it really took place, I would be doubting the validity. Or at the very least thinking that perhaps it may have been embellished a bit. Long story short is Brandon Wright was a riding his motorcycle on a highway in Utah when he was involved in a accident with an oncoming BMW. The BMW driver didn't see Wright whose bike ended up sliding underneath the car effectively trapping Wright underneath the vehicle. He would have remained stuck beneath the burning vehicle were it not for a crowd of folks that banded together to lift the vehicle to free him.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it was hard to fathom that several people could lift a 3 ton vehicle. It's not like it's a semi truck we're talking about here. If several people are working together then lifting at least one side of a car enough for a man to get free is quite possible. It wouldn't necessarily take an abnormal bout of superhuman strength when that many people are helping.
What did get me was the fact that they did it at all. Keep in mind that it wasn't just the fact that dude was trapped underneath a car. It was a BURNING car. The portion that was burning was the engine no less. I'm fairly certain that a good portion of those people were not engineers and/or fire experts. They were taking an awful big risk in assuming that that fire couldn't ignite something to cause a bigger explosion that could have injured any one of them at any point during that daring rescue.
But none of them cared about any of that.
That's one thing about spontaneous moments of heroism. People will often forego their own personal safety if it means helping another soul. It's definitely not something that we hear about everyday. It certainly isn't something that we normally see caught on video for all of us to marvel. Yet it was in this case here. Everyone involved with that effort should be commended because who knows if Wright would have been alive today were it not for them.
They're definitely better than me in that regard. I don't know if I would have been one of the ones to volunteer to do the pushing had I been there. I've just handled too many auto claims over the years to imagine the worst scenario occurring that would prevent me from assisting. Plus I watch too many movies where you always see the car exploding. Yes, I know those are fabricated because of course the car is rigged with explosions to make the destruction look more grandiose than it would in real life. Still...
