Seriously...what is going on with all these young brothas dying before their time? We lose Heavy D and now this cat leaves us. Yes, I realize they have the whole weight thing in common which wasn't good for their health but still. Really hate seeing them go.
O'Neal's name may not have been a household staple but us comedy fans have known him for years. His stand-up bits even shown in their brevity were always hilarious back in the day. It was due in part to those that he was able to get the hosting gig for VH1's show "Web Junk 20". This is where I really began to see how funny he was. As much as I like "Tosh.0" it was O'Neal's show in 2006 that first started the trend.
So you don't remember that show, huh? Well how about you "Office" fans? Surely you remember him as the other Black guy in the warehouse, right? That was back when Steve Carell was on the show. O'Neal's character had some of the best sarcastic lines on the show. And that was just from the sparse scenes he did get. We never saw him again once Darrell moved from the warehouse into the office.
That would turn out to be rather prophetic for O'Neal in real life as well. That would be the last time he would appear on network tv in primetime. At least as a regular in front of the camera. It was a shame too because dude was entirely too funny and deserved more recognition than that. All the junky shows that they debuted this season and not one of them thought about getting him on board? No wonder most of them failed.
On a more serious note, these deaths of brothas my age are making me take a harder look at my health. As if it wasn't enough with Patrice and Heavy then we get the news that former NFL player Chester McGlockton passing. He was only 42. I get the point. All of us need to be taking better care of ourselves.
Rest in peace, Patrice.
