The first casualty of the new year. As much as I can't stand the Broncos, I still hate to see something like this happen. Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams, 24, was shot and killed in today's early hours in front of a nightclub in downtown Denver.
I realize that in order to be successful in a bruising game like the NFL, one has to have a certain air of invincibility about hisself. That's probably why these kids think they can still go out to nightclubs and do what they want like bullets don't phase them. They fail to realize until its too late that these thugs in the club with them could care less about how many interceptions they had last season.
To be fair, I don't know the whole story behind what happened. The preliminary facts indicate Williams was in his stretch Hummer limo when a car pulled up besides them and sprayed the vehicle with bullets. That sounds like a retaliation hit if I ever heard of one.
Whatever the case was, it's still too bad that that young man placed himself in that predicament. You would have thought after the incident with the Indiana Pacers' Stephen Jackson that he would have known better. Pro athletes should know they have targets on their back placed there by jealous knuckleheads who may be envious that their girls are jockin' these cats. Combine that jealousy with the alcohol they've probably been consuming and you can see it proves to be a deadly combination.
